How it works

Seven things happen, in order. Then the words the app uses, and what actually reaches you.

  1. 1Things flow in. Mail, WhatsApp, your calendar, documents you drop in, photos, your phone's movement, wearable data, and whatever you say or type to it.
  2. 2They get filed. A booking email becomes a line on your agenda. A receipt goes to the archive with a searchable text copy. A person mentioned gets a page. Everything is stamped with where it came from, and any filing can be undone.
  3. 3The record is plain files. People, places and things. Topics like money, health and home. Time: agenda, timeline, journal. Readable in any text editor, versioned so nothing is lost.
  4. 4It digests on a schedule. Every hour, a snapshot of what is due, new and waiting. Every night, a pass that turns the day's raw notes into curated pages.
  5. 5You ask. In the web app, on your phone, by voice. It searches your record before it thinks, sends routine work to a cheap or local model and hard reasoning to a frontier one, and shows the evidence behind every answer.
  6. 6It acts within one rule. Reversible things just happen: filing, tagging, adding to the agenda, chasing a status. Irreversible things are drafted and proposed: sending, paying, committing. You approve with a tap.
  7. 7You can leave. One export takes the record, its history and every file.

What leaves your instance: a question to a hosted model, and only what that question needs; and your own export, whenever you want it.

Your instance

When you join, you get your own instance — a running copy of Akashic, set up for you and only you. It is not a shared account on a shared server; other people's records aren't on it, and yours isn't on theirs.

Any model

Akashic doesn't lean on one AI company's identity. Ordinary questions are answered by a hosted model (see Privacy for which one and why); the record underneath is model-agnostic, so swapping the model behind it doesn't mean losing or rewriting your record.

The client

Today you use Akashic through a web client, signed in with a passkey on your phone. It works in any modern mobile or desktop browser at your own instance's address. Installing it to your home screen like an app is on the way, but isn't live yet — don't expect that step today.

The words the app uses

Instance
Your own running copy of Akashic. Nobody else's data is on it, and yours is on nobody else's.
Record
The files. Everything Akashic knows about your life, in plain text you can read.
Matter
Anything with a thread: a renovation, a tax year, a client case, a trip. Messages, documents, photos and agenda lines attach to it.
Process Manager
Everything in flight, in four lanes: incoming, processing, needs you, done.
Needs you
The one list you have to read.
Pack
Depth for a role or a stage of life — a lawyer's matter intake, a student's revision planner — switched on per instance.

What reaches you

A morning brief. The needs-you list. Proposals to approve. Everything else is handled or filed, and visible whenever you look.
